Fall of Marcos

The Fall of Marcos

In February 1986, Marcos was finally driven from office and from the Philippines by the People Power Revolution. Hundreds of thousands of Filipinos rose up in demonstrations which ousted the dictator.

KDP, its allies in the Friends of the Filipino People, Coalition Against the Marcos Dictatorship and other anti-Marcos forces in the US helped to win this victory by weakening US support for the dictator.

Photos are from the spontaneous celebration of the ouster of Marcos in Union Square, San Francisco. All photos by Rick Rocamora (whose additional photographic materials are listed in the Resources section of this web site.
